Education is most properly developed with learning objectives and teaching goals in mind. Learning objectives are outcome statements that capture specifically what knowledge and skills learners should be able to exhibit following instruction.
You must provide the COPAS Office with the learning objectives for your presentation and those learning objectives must be provided to class participants.
You will include the learning objectives in the CPE Event Details Notification Form. This information is to assist you with the description of the learning objectives for your presentation.
- Learning objectives are specific.
- Learning objectives describe what the student will be a le to do at the end of the session.
- Learning objectives must be measurable (measurable verbs are included below. Please note that “understand” is not a measurable verb!)
- The learning objective must match the testing method
Step One: Begin by stating
“By the end of this presentation you will be able to:”
Step Two: Add learning objectives
You should include at least two objectives for a one CPE credit class.
- Choosing a Verb
Choose a verb from block one (these are verbs that match the testing method of multiple-choice knowledge checks. If your testing in class will allow students to type or verbally respond to a question asked, then you may also choose verbs from block two.
