Description of COPAS National Meeting Events

The following is a very general description of the activities that take place during a COPAS National Meeting.  For specific times, refer to the registration form.  Detailed agendas for committee meetings are generally posted on the registration page approximately four to six weeks prior to the meeting.

COPAS National Meeting Events

Board of Directors Meetings (Tuesday afternoon and Thursday afternoon) – Board meetings are generally open to any member who wishes to attend.

Leadership Training (half-day Tuesday) – This intensive session is directed to society and committee leadership, as well as any other members who wish to attend.

Leadership Reception (Tuesday night) – The Leadership Reception is by invitation only. It is normally attended by Board members, society representatives and National Committee chairs.

First Timers Social (Tuesday after Leadership Dinner) – Separate from the regular Hospitality Suite setting, this event is intended to introduce First Timers to their assigned Mentors, as well as other members of the COPAS Board, COPAS Office, Hosting Society, and Standing Committee Chairs.

Hospitality Suite (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings) – The Hospitality Suite is a COPAS tradition and is the social gathering place where attendees can meet and socialize in a relaxed atmosphere.

Emerging Issues Subcommittee (Wednesday morning) – This sub-committee of the Audit Committee is an open forum where new issues are brought before the Audit and Joint Interest committees, and debated in a very lively discussion. All attendees are encouraged to participate in the discussions.  Everyone has an opportunity to participate and voice a vote in these meetings. This is most often the incubation chamber for the initiation of COPAS projects and publications that impact current issues requiring attention in the oil & gas industry.

Revenue Committee (Wednesday all day and Thursday morning) – The Revenue Committee meets to discuss all things involving revenue issues: federal, state and private royalties, severance taxes, regulatory, midstream, and downstream.

Education Committee (Wednesday afternoon) – This committee helps coordinate the education offerings of COPAS.

Financial Reporting Committee (Wednesday afternoon) – This committee discusses current and upcoming issues related to financial reporting for oil and gas companies. This session will be joined by the Small Oil and Gas Companies Committee.

Small Oil and Gas Companies Committee (Wednesday afternoon) – This committee discusses issues that are unique to small companies. This session will be joined by the Financial Reporting Committee.

Reception (Wednesday evening) – The Hosting Society typically schedules an event that may include a tour of a local attraction or a speaker of local interest. An open bar and heavy appetizers are typically offered.

Audit Committee (Thursday morning) – Meetings are to discuss issues relating to joint venture and other oil and gas industry audits.  The Audit Committee usually meets in a combined session with the Joint Interest Committee prior to breaking out into its separate meeting, when voting items are required.

Joint Interest Committee (Thursday morning) – The Committee discusses issues pertaining to accounting for joint interest operations.  The Joint Interest Committee usually meets in a combined session with the Audit Committee prior to breaking out into its separate meeting, when voting items are required.

Council Meeting (Thursday afternoon) – This meeting is the culmination of the week’s activities. All the various committees report on their various activities during the week, and the Council handles any voting items and other business that comes before it. The meeting also includes previews of upcoming National Meetings.

Meals – Various meals that are identified in the registration form are included with your registration. For other meals you are free to explore the local area food offerings on your own. Please register for any meals you plan to attend to assist the organizers in the meeting planning.
