COPAS Mentoring

For First Timers to this COPAS conference or new to the industry:  Why sign up for a COPAS Mentor?

The purpose of having a COPAS Mentor for you, as a First Timer, is to ensure that there is a point of contact to answer questions prior to, during, and after COPAS meetings.   These questions may entail which committee to attend that best aligns with your job function; what events offered provide the best networking and knowledge transfer opportunity, or who can be contacted to provide guidance on a specific job task question.

For those interested in having a COPAS Mentor:

If you aren’t a First Timer and maybe not new to the industry but you are interested in being assigned a COPAS Mentor, please contact us at COPASMentor@copas.org.

For Potential COPAS Mentors:  What is a COPAS Mentor?   What are the qualifications?

It is not intended for a COPAS Mentor to be an expert in their field, just knowledgeable enough to know where to go to get more information to address a First Timer’s needs and have a willingness to personally connect and be available for assistance or just to chat about the oil and gas business.  In general, a COPAS Mentor is a COPAS member willing to provide to those unfamiliar with COPAS and/or less experienced in the industry, an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the benefits provided by COPAS to the energy industry, energy companies, and for individual professional development.   Desired pre-requisites include a desire, time, and willingness to serve as a mentor, an understanding of the COPAS organization, and a willingness to embrace something new.  Knowledge of COPAS Publications pertinent to a mentee’s specific job function assignment such as audit, joint interest, or revenue, are also very beneficial.
