Description: This class will consist of three presentations from Knowing Your COPAS Documents designed to expose COPAS concepts and documents to new professionals and refresh our seasoned professionals.  During this presentation you will become acquainted with the reasons for, rationale of, and intents behind our COPAS documents. This class will cover "Building a Payroll Charge," "How Do I Allocate That?" and "Building Overhead Charges to the Joint Account."

  • MF-3 1984 Accounting Procedure
  • MF-6 2005 Accounting Procedure
  • MFI-21 Overhead Principles
  • MFI-44 Field Computer and Communication Systems
  • MFI-45 Offshore Marine and Aircraft Staging Areas
  • MFI-46 Shorebase Facilities and Offshore Staging Areas
  • MFI-48 Application and Calculation of Drilling Overhead
  • MFI-51 2005 Model Form Accounting Procedure
  • MFI-56 Rig-Related Costs
  • AG-20 Extrapolated Sales and Use Tax Audit Assessments

Objectives: Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Correctly calculate a payroll charge to the Joint Account
  • Allocate for Marine and Aircraft staging areas; shorebase facilities and offshore staging areas; field computer and communication systems; extrapolated sales and use tax audit assessments; and rig-related costs
  • Assess well count considerations using the 2005 Accounting Procedure
  • List the pros and cons in well count considerations
  • Assess volume considerations using the 2005 Accounting Procedure
  • List the pros and cons in volume considerations
  • Determine drilling days in a traditional environment
  • Determine drilling days in a Shale environment
  • Calculate workovers at the drilling rate
  • Determine wells for producing overhead
  • Apply drilling and producing rates
  • Determine qualifying projects for major construction overhead
  • Calculate amounts due for major construction overhead
